Does anyone run one? Are they effective at all. I've always run chariots as singles never a unit and would be interested in what people's opinion is.
Reason for asking is I find myself with an abundance of chariots and I am looking at what I may do with them. If a unit is considered effective I may give it a go. But chariots are not the bludgeoning tool in war gods as they are in other games so I'm a bit hesitant Cheers

If they've got bows on board and polearms they provide good support for other units.
I've been very interested in a 'chariot wind' warband for a while. I think it was on the old forum where someone in the UK did a mostly chariot warband that was either very successful or horribly mangled in battles.

Nick (Fenrihr) has run multiple chariots and been very successful with them, however he didnt run them as units. What we found with the chariot unit was it was a very wide unit that got caught up in terrain and took away the main advantages of the chariot, speed and maneuverability. By racing around individually he was able to decimate units by having Basti characters onboard. I will let him know you are asking the question.

I will await the knowledge of fenrihr with eager anticipation. Thanks stormcricket
I agree cbp3 weapons load out will make a difference Which leads me to another question how many characters can be in a chariot unit? At first glance this was not obvious from the rule book

One per unit.
See Page 64 of the BOB in the section entitled: Units of Chariots ( as per the fourth sentence in the opening paragraph of that section).

Seeing as Stormcricket has dobbed me in...
I do use chariots. At 1500pts, my armies usually have four. As Stormcricket says; they are in a basti army, where the four chariots are the only archers. But I run them individually, and all of them have a characters on-board - either my harbinger or a hero. Usually they are armed with a bow and (usually) a two handed weapon… sometimes a spear works - especially when chariot jousting. Happy to discuss tactics if you’re interested, but to cut a long post short – I’ve found multiple chariots to be very effective… if they are run as above, and coordinated with each other. But you have to watch your number of activations/command when considering what else to take in your army. I have never been able to get chariot units to work, due to the highly restrictive movement rules - meaning on anything that isn’t a completely barren table, it’s a massive headache to avoid having at least one of the chariots crashing into terrain or random underfoot units/models (from either side) every other turn.

Thanks Fenrihr. Yes I had thought about the command issue hence asking about chariot units to try and get around that but i guess i might have to rethink - it seems terrain is the biggest factor for the unit not working!
I wonder how terrain dense the game was designed to be?

While four (individual) chariots certainly chews up your order limits, with a bit of careful planning in your list, I've never really had too many problems - even with a Basti harbinger - who are not really renowned for their high Command values.
I'm not sure about the terrain density thing... but what you see at Cancon is what we usually play at home.
