well, I'm now committed to a specific list...only 83 models for 2000 points, so nothing too complicated...

Next step is making sure they're all painted

I'm happy to help you out on that score if you'd like, or provide additional suggestions on how to get a list that you are happy with - and I promise that I won't base my advice on what I'm taking just PM me (I think the only email address you have for me has been disabled).

It is now past the date where I was going to decided if we go ahead or not. We have eight registered players, so the tournament will be going ahead. If we're luckly we may get an extra player or two (and I have plans in place to have a by army if needed).

Please note that lists for those registered were also due on the 10th. So far I've only recieved two lists.

Could players who are yet to submit lists please do so as soon as possible.

Although I cannot make it to Cancon, I would be keen to attend in the future. I have only ever played the game once, but have loads of figures and love the concept.

Please take loads of pictures.

Just so I know for future, is Cancon a good place for a newbie to learn? Jumping in the deep and as it were.

We're a nice bunch, so if you've played one or two games then you'll be fine

IF you were going to play at Cancon and only had a small number of games under your belt, I'd be advising that you let the TO know so that they can match you up against an experienced player who is happy to help you learn the game first round.

And I'm happy to volunteer myself for that duty...

Alas, I'm in Perth. I have quite a lot of figures, just lacking in people willing to play or teach the game.

Off the top of my head I have roughly 40-50 Tethru 40-50 Typhon 15-20 Sobeki 30-40 Basti 10-20 Asar 20-30 Nekharu

So lots to try out if I can find someone willing to give something other then Warhammer or Warmachine a go

Update on the tournament: Everything is looking good so far. We have eight players ... though I'm still waiting for final lists from two of them. Once I've got everyone's lists I'll let you all know what warbands are going to be resettling Canah.

I hope to have the players pack emailed to you all on wednesday (again, waiting on a few warband lists).

Finally, at this point, it looks like we wont have any actual prizes. Due to the increased costs of running CanCon, and the small size of our tournament, we dont get any included Dragon trophies. Getting a gold and silver dragon trophy (for 1st and 2nd overall) pretty much uses up the prize pool. I'll also have certificates for best painted, sport and general.

I hope everyone is ok with this. From discussions at previous years, everyone seemed fine with not having prices.

Iv'e now got lists for all eight players. Warbands are:
  • Anubi
  • Basti
  • Dispossessed (Isis)
  • To-Tanem
  • Typhon
  • Eaters of the Dead
  • Titans
  • Wendigo

Quite an Aegyptus focus this year. Given there are no double-ups, I'll bring my Osiris Dispossessed with as a bye army, just in case (rather than my To-Tanem).

They say that those who start into the abyss should take care, for the abyss stares back.

They say that Amoy, called 'red eye' in his youth, was marked for greatness from his birth, born albino, born with a caul... born with a twisted spine that wracked him with pain from his first breath.

They say that from his first words he showed great intellect and fascination with the embalmer's craft.

They say it was these whispers of his mighty destiny, or the ill concealed pity at his wretched body that surrounded him that prompted the pride that lead to his fall, earning him the name Amoi the Accursed.

Nonetheless his tale is one of greatness. Greatness both in the cause of light and truth, and of darkness and despair.

He fought against the foes of Aegyptus in the warband of Paketh of the gloom, perfecting his skills and earning great renown until, suspecting the corruption that mighty harbinger was descending into, he departed.

Seeking something he could not describe even to himself, he quested both alone and joining for a time with others, seeking knowledge of life and death, and understanding of the Eater of the Dead in order to somehow contrive that vile power's ultimate overthrow.

He had heard of the Book of the Dead and obsessively sought to gain as much information as he could on this long lost magical tome.

He scoured the libraries of the collage of embalmers and it was not enough.

He tried to gain access to the archives at Hermiopolis but was denied by its feathered guardians.

In desperation he returned to Paketh, now falled far from the path of Maat, and travelled with him, always seeking deeper knowledge, no matter what source it came from.

With these companions around him, it is said, he delved too deep into unclean and forbidden knowledge, and maybe that was his doom, and the doom of many other poor souls now writhing in Tuat because of him.

Finally, after many years questing, his body weakened with age and his many trials, he recovered the Book of the Dead, bringing it back to the Collage of Embalmers in triumph.

With it, he increased his understanding and his power grew even more... and his frustration, for it was not enough. Not enough. The power of the Eater waxed as Aegyptus tore itself apart.

Then he heard that the lost city of Ankara had been rediscovered.

Like so many others he set off for the lost city, but his objective was not treasure or glory

As a pup, he had heard an old family legend telling of a mighty ancestor of his house, a Harbinger of Anubis named Anupu, reputedly holder of the Staff of Upuaut - Opener of the Ways.

In the story he had fought against the Eater in the first battle for Ankara but had fallen in battle or been lost in it's aftermath along with his entire warband and the relic itself.

He would find the staff.

Find it and ensure his ancestor's rest.

After moons of searching... moons of danger avoiding the feuding warbands and groups of the unquiet dead he found the resting place of the staff and its last owner.

They had perished in battle, fighting the numberless legions of the dead raised by the necromancers.

Every anubi was in his place, all their wounds to the front, fallen like stones in their ranks. The dead defiled by the Eater were mounded up around them like waves on the shore, the highest around mighty Anupu himself.

Then the sandstorm raised by Set had covered them, entombing them for millennia, locked in battle.

Amoi performed the rites of his order on Anupu and his warband, and as many of their enemy as he could.

Then, secure in his knowledge, in his power, in his pride, he took up the staff of Upuaut and on that unholy ground, called upon its power.

He stared into the abyss and it swallowed him whole.

+++++

The column of troops marched slowly north through the desolation of the Red Land far to the east of the life giving Nile. A trio of vultures circled for a while but drifted away eventually, discouraged as none of the moving meals looked like stopping anytime soon.

Two chariots and over a hundred foot marched under tattered red banners without pause under the blazing sun. They had been travelling for days, marching day and night, bypassing waterholes, one of the chariots scouting ahead as they avoiding all contact.

If the vultures had descended close enough to notice they would have fled as fast as the winds could take them... if a malicious arrow did not pluck them from the sky. There was no food for them here. The travellers in such haste and secrecy were dead.

All but one.

Creaking bone and ragged linen wrappings. Dried sinew and shreds of muscle animated by an unholy hunger and burning hatred for all that lived.

All but one, who still lived.

After a fashion.

"This flesh is weak." rasped Amoi, huddled in the chariot car to avoid the sun that flayed his pale skin.

"Then thou shouldst join me. I feel no pain or thirst," replied the driver of the chariot, a giant cadaverous anubi, scarred flesh dessicated by the desert, eye-sockets deeply shadowed by his battle helm and lit by a spark of unlife.

"Then wouldst thou suffer no more, and I would not hate thee so, pup of my pup." continued the Dark Harbinger.

The living anubi took a small sip from the waterskin slung over his shoulder. "Feh, I am not your kin. Only this shell, which still holds you dear and would put you to rest if it could."

"Maybe I should slay you now." mused Anupu.

"You need me, as I need you." Amoi rasped, clutching his staff, topped with a giant ankh carved from the bone of some long forgotten beast.

For a long moment the Dark Harbinger stared at his descendent, taloned fingers clenching and unclenching on the reins, but whatever he was about to say or do was lost when the other chariot of his force rattled over a dune, the passenger waving energetically to his master.

Their prey was in sight.

The Red Harvest had come to Canaan.

+++++

They say Amoi is damned and accursed. Lost forever to Tuat or worse, and dragging many others down with him.

But some say he still struggles against the Eater. That he still has a destiny to fullfill and one day will strike a mighty blow against that dark power.

Thanks to everyone for attending. I think the tournament went very well. I'll try and put the players pack online for anyone who is interested to see it.

Tournament Results:

  • Champion of Ra (1st overall) - Mark
  • Herald of Ra (2nd overall) - Barry
  • Worst Luck - Darcy
  • Champion of Horus (best general) - Mark
  • Champion of Khanum (best sport) - Shane
  • Champion of Bast (best painted) - Drew

Thanks again to Gus of Zepnix Wargames for providing prize support. Thanks also to Barry for providing event minitures (he had a few different options from perivoous years, plus decks of printed Master of Words and Necromancer spells that he'd made up).

I have a lot of scenery (used to run Tournies) and a few armies so we just need tabletop!

Perhaps we can put on some demo's to tempt those WH/WM players you mention.

PM on it's way.
