Hi everyone, I've been looking at War Gods for a while and with the recent kickstarter I'm thinking about getting the game started up at my local shop. I'd like to start my collection with a force from the Aegyptus setting, and I was wondering if the current rulebook is up to date. Will there be a new edition or anything when the new products come out, or will the Aegyptus book stay the way it is? I'm very excited about the game, but I don't want to buy the book and then discover I need a new book three months from now.

As far as I'm aware there are no plans for a new rulebook.

The Aegyptus rulebook should be good for many years to come!

Thanks for the info. Definitely going to order it then. About how large is a starting army? Say, the equivalent of a 500 point Warhammer army?

IMO although the game is playable at smaller points sizes, it only really starts being the most fun at 1200+ points.

A good starting point for a force is a Warband starter set + 1 additional unit, which off the top of my head is about 750-800 points depending on race.

I'm looking at Heru for my army, based solely on the fact that the Harbinger of Horus Avenger Aspect is my favorite model in the range. I was thinking about picking him up, plus a unit box to start out with. I'm one of those people who won't play with unpainted models so I build armies in small increments. Which Heru unit would be good to start with? I like the look of the swordsmen personally. Is there one that has a particular synergy with the Avenger Harbinger?

The swordsmen would be a great choice!

polearms aren't too bad either and quite easy to convert to spearmen, with a pair of clippers and a bit of green stuff.

Thanks again for all the help. Placed my order this morning. Got my rulebook/counters, my harbinger, some polearm warriors, and a master of words.

And today my warband came in. Got them assembled and primed. Thanks to Fitz for sending the confirmation. I've got a few people at my local shop interested in the game so we should have a small but growing War Gods community soon.

And where might this new group be?

And congrats on discovering the best miniature game around. I hope it brings you and your group as much enjoyment as it has to me.

Thanks, Mordante. The shop where I play is in a town called Mandeville in Louisiana, about 45 minutes north of New Orleans. I just picked up some d10's since I've never had to use them before. My warriors are almost painted and my friend is going to start up the Wendigo.

I actually have a question about warband building. If I want to play a pitched battle that isn't part of a campaign, does my harbinger have to be limited to one Ka point? Can I pay, say, fifty more points to have a Harbinger with three Ka points? I really want to try out the different Gifts of the Gods and it may be a while before we can get a campaign underway.

Just come up with house rules. We typically start out with ka 2 in campaign or pick up games. Main this is make sure everyone in your group comes to an agreement on ka and warband point cost. Take the first couple games slow, don't play to win, just play to learn the games strategies and rules. Most of all just have fun with it. Also in the download section I believe the is an Excel file where you can build your warband. It's fun to use and extremely helpful.

Yes, definitely get the warband builder spreadsheet. It figures out almost everything for you and it's fun to play around with race and weapon options.

We usually start out are campaigns and just regular pick-up games at Ka 2 & 1250 point Warbands.

Then right before you start the game you & your opponent roll your second Gift from the Gods.

Also remember that you get to improve one of your Harbinger's Stats for every Ka above Ka 1.

A good idea is to raise your Disc so you can win the Edge more.

Disc seems good, but Heru already have very high disc, so would it be overkill? Maybe defense rating would be better to avoid getting killed?
