Chris, my new Mycenaean phalanxes look great and wonder if you and the team have discussed the possibility of sculpting additional arm sprues for the front rank Mycenaeans? What I am looking for are right arms with either swords or javelins. many Trojan War details include warriors hurling javelins and then charging into combat with side arms.

just something (easy) to consider. Thanks Barry

A Mycenaean Hoplite throwing javelins in the Antediluvian World ...nah. That's what they'll have Peltats/Psiloi/skirmishers, or whatever Chris has in store for the Mycenaeans.

Just my opinion, but seems like the Croc is pulling from a later period, fighting-style, than the Trojan War for Olympus. It is believed phalanxes were not around until hundreds of years after the Trojan War. Would look odd for a phalanx to break formation, put their spears down, an throw javelins. Here is a great little link to describe the difference between Homeric history and actual: http://forums.leasticoulddo.com/index.php?showtopic=10854

Though I do believe parts of Olympus fluff-wise will pull from the Trojan War, but who knows? Oooo, after reading that link again how cool would it be if the Myceneans get some lightly armed Spearmen, like Spartan Peltats, but euipped with Spear instead of Hand Weapon.

Thanks for the information Akori, I know you are a lot closer to the croc team than I so would imagine you would know more about thier plans than I. so you do not think the Troy period will be covered, that is too bad considering it would be a perfect campaign motive for Demi Gods. Since I first got into the Croc miniatures (to many years ago to admit to now) the allure of recreating this epic series of battles has been a fantasy of mine, alas, I will have to think about other angles then.

Actually, the historical Myceneans are thought to have fought in a close-order formation with large (and long) shields and long spears before the Trojan War, and then adjusted their fighting style to a more open one with javelins and/or shorter spears and medium-sized round shields around the time of the Trojan War.

Both styles predated the classical Greek hoplites and their phalanx by at least a few centuries, although the former style's formation may have resembled a phalanx in effect, while the latter style's equipment may have had some influence on later hoplites' gear.

The Mycenaeans are still likely to get a missile or skirmish troop, like the Spartans have with the peltasts. Olympus is really designed to be able to play Cassical or Homeric, whichever you prefer. There are plenty of myths and battles set in both eras, and some that even appear in both!

Making a spare arm sprue with swords sounds possible, if we can a commitment that we'll sell 100 in the first couple weeks of release, I'd be happy to make one. It would be about like the Spartan arms sprue, 2 arms for $2.50.

Well, 100 may be more than I need right away, but count me in for 25!

Hmmm, nearly there. Anyone else want to sign on the dotted line, in blood?

I'll pick up the difference. I'm sure I can find a use for sword arms.

I'll even pre-order them if that'll make things easier - just send an invoice to my Paypal account!

I understand that production has slowed down, but I am just curious if this proposal ever got started? In addition, when the Mycenaeans were new, we were told that the shields would be available individually for order, since they have not been added to the web store, is this also still going forward?

Yes the shields interested me too... need to ditch the old HUGE ones for the much nicer newer ones (even if they are supposedly more historical).

If you send an email inquiry about the shields to the 'sales' address should get you some if they're available.

OK, these are in-stock and ready to order...

Mycenaean Swords

Here's a pic of 2 of the front-rankers with the sword arms, too:

Front Rank

Something to keep in mind when assembling these... they are sold in pairs because there are 2 different shoulder-armor designs in the front rank models, and so we made 2 different sword arms with shoulder-armor to match. The easiest way to figure out which goes with which is to look at the hem of the sleeves hanging beneath the shoulder-pad:

One has a IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII design, like a fringe or tassles. One has a UUUUUUUUUU design, like a decorative leather border.

Match these to the model with the opposite correct sleeve, and you'll be good to go.
