CanCon 2016 (Canberra, Australia)
WarGods - Tournament of Olympus

For a time we turn away from the sands of Ægyptus and the Children of the Gods, to the fertile lands of Hellas. Here the Gods look upon their children, not with benevolence, but with equal measures of pride, jealousy and capriciousness. To draw attention from the heights of Mount Olympus is a dangerous thing, it can bring both great rewards and great suffering.

However, you are about to draw the attention of the Gods. Zeus has declared a tournament. A series of challenges to settle a trivial and fickle argument – who has the greatest son or daughter in all the lands below the Mount.

The Tournament will test the Demigods in many ways – strength, cunning, wisdom, leadership. The winner will be favoured, famed in song and richly rewarded. The losers, well, that depends.

How does your patron deity respond to failure?

Overview
This is a two day, 6 game, WarGods of Ægyptus tournament on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January 2016. Please note that Monday 25 January 2016 is not a public holiday.

While the Tournament does have an Olympian theme, all Warbands, including Ægyptian and Wendigo are welcome. If players do have an Olympian Warband, they are strongly encouraged to consider taking it. All the scenarios, terrain and awards for this tournament will be themed around Olympus rather than Ægyptus.

Registration
Registration and lists are due by Friday 9 January 2015. Lists should be emailed to wargods-cancon@iinet.net.au. Players can register at at http://www.cgs.asn.au/cancon/.

This tournament has a minimum of 8 and maximum of 16 players. Late registrations will only be accepted if it leads to an even number of players (assuming the min number has been met). If the minimum number of players is not reached by 9 January, the tournament will not run. (allowing two weeks for players to consider other games).

Awards and Prizes
Trophies will be awarded for 1st and 2nd Overall (Champion and Favoured of Zeus) (based on a combination of achieving scenario objectives, defeating enemy Warbands, defeating enemy leaders, painting and sportsmanship). Certificates will be awarded for, best sports (Champion of Dionysus) and painted (Champion of Aphrodite).

Prizes may be available depending on the number of players. As per last year (and feedback from players), prizes are likely to be appropriately themed books.

Warband Composition
The following Warband compositions restrictions will apply.
  • 1750 point Warband.
  • Harbinger/Demigod/Ice Witch may start at up to Ka 2 (paint the appropriate point cost).
  • Warbands may be selected from any Crocodile Games publication released before 1 January 2016. This includes the WarGods of Ægyptus rulebook, Wendigo Warband Guide, Croc Tales, WarGods of Olympus rulebook (if released), WarGods of Olympus trial Warband rules (if rulebook not released).
    • If rules for the Amazon and Trojan Demigods and Honor Guard are not available, use the rules provided below.
  • Models must be WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) with the following exceptions.
    • Non Crocodile Games models are acceptable as long as they are clearly identifiable, and appropriate to the theme of the Warband and WarGods in general.
    • No models may be equipped with both heavy armour and a shield (of any type).
    • Javelins and throwing clubs do not have to be represented on models.
    • Armour may represent one class of armour up or down form what is represented on the model (paying the appropriate points cost. For example, a model in light armour can be used to represent no armour, light armour or medium armour; a model with no armour could represent no armour or light armour.
    • Shields carried by models can represent normal or large shields (paying the appropriate points cost).
    • Olympian Battle Honors do not need to represented on models as set out in the Olympian (currently trial) rules. However, any unit with Battle Honors must be clearly identifiable and different from other similar units, to both the owning player and their opponent. Tokens are an acceptable way to represent Battle Honors.
  • Starting Spells and Powers will be rolled by the Tournament Organiser and provided to players once lists have been submitted. These Spells/Powers will be used for all games in the Tournament (not re-rolled before each game).
    • Powers gained during the game should be rolled at the end of the game and witnessed by your opponent or the Tournament Organiser;.
    • If you do not have an appropriate models for a rolled Power, or already have that Power, take lowest numbered Power not yet gained instead.
  • Path. Warbands must declare whether their leader is Famous or Infamous. Eater of the Dead, Wendigo and Titan Warbands are always Infamous. This must be listed when you submit your list and cannot be changed during the Tournament. Path may be important for Olympian Warbands using a War Altar.
Patron Deities
A Tournament must have a winner, or really, there's just no point is there. Zeus has tasked Athena with keeping score of who's Demigods are the most successful throughout the Tournament.

Warbands must declare a Patron Deity. This must be listed when you submit your Warband list and cannot be changed during the Tournament.

Unfortunately, the code for tables keeps being stripped out when I submit this post, so I can't provide the deity table here. Please see the Pre-registration Players Pack.

Interim Rules for Amazons and Trojans
Currently rules are not available for Amazon and Trojan Demigods and Honor Guards. If official rules are not available by 1 January 2016, please use the below. Please note the below are unofficial, has been developed by the Tournament Organiser, and are intended to allow for a greater variety of Olympian themed Warbands in the Tournament. The rules have been developed based on a comparison of other similar Ægyptian and Olympian models.

Unfortunately, the code for tables keeps being stripped out when I submit this post, so I can't provide the interim profiles here. Please see the Pre-registration Players Pack.

Well it's not my 40th this year - and both myself and my wife are on parental leave. So depends on our liittle one who will be 7 months old. But I'd like to come along (I'm also going to be in the area at Easter)

Olympus would be fine - the cookie cutter analogy is apt though without the 'second wave' most forces will be carbon copies. Unsure if I'd go Titans or Spartans or something else.. (Spartans need a serious refresh paint wise)

Not that fussed either way on prizes. I play for the social aspect and the coveted best sports ;) so a certificate is fine by me. A trophy will in all honesty just gather dust.

Happy to pay 45 though if the majority want trophies.

^ wot 'e sed

I'm not fussed re: prizes (although books are always nice :-P) so I'm happy to go with the majority on that one.

With the option for Olympus I will be happy to go down this path just to break things up a bit. The lists are likely to have similarities, but realistically I would say that many Aegyptus lists tend to be quite similar as well...although that has been changing as people have been experimenting with things a bit more.

Hazpak - congrats on the little one.

Count me in and more than happy to go Olympian as well. As far as prizes goes, the books and certificates were popular last year and I am more than happy to go that way again. However if the majority want trophies then I am willing to go that way too.

So far we have one registered player. I'm aware of four others who are most likely to be attending.

Unfortunately, i have to admit, at this point it's not looking good. By late December, in previous years, we'd have had more interest.

Is there a way to register without the weird payment thing on their website?

I'm trying to finalise the last things needed to get myself down.

You'll need to email CGS directly about that one - I don't know of a solution (except getting someone to register on your behalf and pay for it that way)

I can't really confirm if the tournament is on or not, until the close off day, about two weeks before CanCon.

However, we have two people registered, and I'm aware of six others (including people who have posted here) who are likely. So we might get to the needed eight players.
