hi
so i've been following this company and its games for the past couple of months mostly because im a huge ancient greece history / mythos fan and when i saw that CG was developing a game around that theme i couldnt believe that my questions finally had an answer (btw, i really couldn wait and forced myself into Aegyptus:)) The thing is, i think im a bit disappointed, and im sorry to say this but i really dont understand CG. i've been searching for infos around this game on other sites and i've seen some "contradictory" info. for exemple, i've seen material in blisters (!) (demigods, heroes etc) that cant be bought because they're werent released but i've seen them in some german website (i guess)....i've seen pics in boardgamegeeks from 2007 with myceneans and where are they? and last but not least, where are the rules? As a client and a big fan of your games, but mostly as a client, i would like to get more accurate info about release dates...i think everyone would prefer something like "we will release X in June 2011" than" i will release this next month" followed by "we will release it not next month but in February" etc etc Notwithstanding this, i would like to say that i really enjoy Aegyptus and i think you're doing a great job! best regards

Starscream said:Hi Starscream, Thanks for the feedback, and I'll try to provide some answers for you... I'm glad to hear you are interested in Olympus, we have some great stuff coming for the greeks in the new year. Regarding the miniatures that you may have seen around which are not yet available on the website, yes, there are several miniatures that were released in limited quantities in the past, mainly at game conventions that the Croc attended. These were 'test castings' that we made to perfect their production process, and we only had a few of them, were thus sold in limited quantity. Most of these models have since made it into general production, but a few have not -- notably the Demigods and the Mycenaeans. The last few months we have been getting these miniatures ready for general release, and the Mycenaeans should be ready in the next month or so, with the Demigods shortly after, with several new models that people have never seen before added for good measure. We'll be posting exact release dates when we are 100% confident that we can meet them. The rules for the greeks were released a couple years ago in a photocopier 'playtest edition' which is no longer available. However, playtesting for them is now largely over, and we are putting the rules for the Spartans & Myceneans in the next issue of Croc Tales (our free web-zine), in just a few weeks. The Titans are already available for download, they are in Croc Tales #2.
To clarify a little about Crocodile Games, we are a small company with a small staff of mainly volunteers, and so it often takes us longer than we would like to get stuff released -- especially at the high quality level that customers expect from us. I'd love to be able to post exact release dates, but the realities of production don't always allow this. We are always a little short on funds and manpower, so any problems with a large release is likely to set us back a little as the 'Sculpting' and 'Mail Order' departments (specifically, myself and Debs) have to shut down to get the new problems sorted out. Unfortunately that's not likely to change until we are able to hire more staff, and that could be a while. So if you like our stuff, please be patient with us, we are hard a work with lots more to come... I know you are mainly interested in the greeks, but let's not forget that we ARE making progress on WarGods. We just released the Wendigo Warband Guide, our first new print product in several years. It was a big accomplishment for us, and we think it is the most beautiful product we've done so far. The Olympus book is next on the agenda, and we are doing our best to make sure that it is ready to go to the printers in 2011. However, print products are always a huge investment, and the best way to ensure that Olympus happens sooner rather than later is to support our latest release -- or help spread to word to other potential players.
Hope this helps!

Hi there!
Thank you for your answer. That really explains everything. i guess i wasnt really seeing it all (especially that part were the work is done mostly by volunteers....). and if that is the case then wow, you're really doing a tremendous job!! Now that my curiosity is satisfied, i'll continue to check this forum and await for the next releases! Best regards!

Will the special rules for all the Spartan Heroes be in the Croc Tales?
And will the Demi- Gods powers be completed? Thanks

Hey there,
I was just wondering when the next Croc Tales is due for release. Forgive me for being forward, because I have a Spartan Army and I am really eager to play with them Thanks

Hi!
I'll second what has been said earlier, we can help supporting the game but not having even a draft army list, I'll may sell back Hoplites *very* recently bought, or think playing another game with these minis. Hope I can play WoO soon... -- Sébastien

We're all looking forward to the new releases. I would rather take a while, and have a company like CG prosper, than fork my money over to an overblown soulless corporation.
Just my two cents worth.

I can understand people's frustrations with not having the rules for Spartans immediately available. A friend of mine is irritated because we've been using house rules for his Spartans because we cannot find the old rules for them. But here is what I told him the other day...
You have your gaming companies like GW who crank out new material every week because they're large, have a dedicated staff of over 100 employees, and have hardcore fans who buy everything that comes out which translates to more cash on hand to pay their staff, release new stuff, etc. The same applies to Battlefront, PP, etc. Then you have your gaming companies like Osprey, Malifeaux, and Crocodile Games that release things infrequently but they have their dedicated fans who buy things when they come out and the products are beautiful. I had always been a fan of Wargods but never started playing it until they released the Warhawks and the beautiful models just made it all worthwhile. It has been a long while since I looked at a new release from CG and thought to myself "That looks terrible." So the Spartans are coming. I really doubt Crocodile Games is going to back out and say "Sorry, instead of Spartans we've decided to focus on Wargods of Jersey Shore" instead. I say enjoy painting your models and if you really want to play with them just proxy them using Asar rules (substitute Zeus for Osiris, Spartan Hoplites for Heru Spearmen, etc) or use them in your other wargames until then. Keep the faith and I'm sure Ares will look down upon your patience with approval and make you an unstoppable Demigod!

I would like to add that again, I understand your frustration. I'm not trying to downplay people's complaints at all. If I played Spartans, I'd be upset as well. But just think of the carnage you'll bring when the Spartans finally arrive!

Hey guys,
Thanks for being patient with us. We've had a lot of unexpected difficulties with both the Mycenaeans and the new Croc Tales, but I can assure you, they are both coming. I'm picking up another batch of molds this week, and that will leave just about 6 to go. Croc Tales is actually waiting on some photography of the new minis in these very molds, so we should see some cool things start happening next week. I'll be posting pics of Aggamemnon & his guards (the actual minis) within a week, and we'll put up a pre-order then. If any of you really want to help speed this up, please pre-order the Mycenaeans when the pre order goes up next week. Pre-orders really help us to get the initial allotment of minis produced quickly, so if you want them, please order them early. You won't be disappointed!

Looking forward to the release.

While I am not looking forward fielding to a large Mycenaean force I will probably preorder at least the starter pack and a few other characters if not included in the starter pack. I really want a Titan Hunter. I would also like a shot at some of the hero and champion models if any are in the initial release. I may just buy the army to have another demo army around. Probably depends on funds at the time.
I am trying to get together enough people to organize playing the world campaign this year here in Orlando but initially I will likely be providing all the armies. I am also looking forward to the rules for the campaign being published soon. The Demigod release intrigues me but I already have Leonidas and Tychedes as well as the Hades Demigod so I am not as desirous of Demigods as some. I would like the DG of Artemis as I have an interesting army composition that I would like to try with her. I have been collecting up female Greek models of late from other manufacturers for use as heroes and I think having that model will be the icing on the cake. I know that the Demigods are due up after the men of Mycenae but are the Mercenaries that were much discussed last year on the old-new forum going to be with the Demigod release, the Mycenaean release or another release entirely? I know I want all of them so that I can field them and/or have them available to loan out as needed. There are of course still other things I would like to see such as Anubi expansions (though I have a few of the old Anubi slingers I need more stuff), Aegyptus priests of the same race as their Harbinger seeing as most of them are Asar, missile troops and/or secondary melee troops for many Aegyptus factions, chariots for anyone in Aegyptus whose faction name does not start with the letter A, etc. I can wait for all of these for a while longer. Two kids, grad school, and a full time gig take up a lot of my time. But I love me some Wargods models and I am itching to play some games. The more stuff that comes out the more stuff I will covet. Returning to the Aegyptus unit thing here is a list of what might be helpful for each faction. The Anubi could use a second melee unit preferably with either spears or pole arms. This is the only group that I think needs to go up to 4 units. Others will likely disagree. The Asar are squared away with having 4 units. On top of that you have a few City-Dweller units that could be converted to Dispossessed with some work. They are probably the most diverse faction besides the Heru who could field an all Heru and City-Dweller army with 8 different looking units most of which would play differently from each other. The Basti could use another unit of some variety, probably a straight melee unit, even if it was of City-Dwellers. The Heru have 4 units and are very squared away currently. The Khemru have 2 units currently and short of a throwing clubs unit I am not sure what else they need, though the diversity would be nice. The Nekharu are not even a real faction and they have 2 units so they seem okay for now. The Sebeki are a mainline army and they only have 1 unit currently. I know they do not exactly lend themselves to missile troops but something could be added to the mix here. The Tethru have two troops that cover a lot of ground, so if anything was to be added it should either be City-Dweller based or a skirmisher unit. To-Tanum and Typhon could both use a missile unit. The Undead are squared away for now with 3 units and lots of proxy opportunities out there from other companies. I would like to close by making two things clear. 1) I know this is the Olympus board and half of my post involves Aegyptus. Sorry about that one thought rolled into another. 2) I am not trying to negatively criticize the Croc team. Far from it. I love their models. Originally I purchased some Spartans to make a fantasy Greek force for a game called Armies of Arcana. I got hooked on their models and my Spartans by themselves have tripled in the last 3-4 years. That has led me into 3 other armies (Anubi, Sebeki, and Wendigo) and desires for at least 3 more (Mycenaeans, Titans, and EoD). I just want to get my opinions out there. I get that times are tight and that this is a small company but the quality is very high. I think the more they release the more they will grow. I will buy what I want when I can from this company. The more I can buy from them instead of having to convert models to what I need the more frequent my purchases shall be.

It is a good point that some of the core units for armies can only be made by conversions. I would love to see an Asar unit armed with maces so I can field them as City Dwellers of Elephantine. The Nekharu and Sebeki could use more units as well.
Don't worry though, I'm sure we'll see these units down the line. I think CG is trying to build up a broad line and they have so much ground to cover.

There's the Sebeki Convention guy...
The To-Tanem do have slingers (or maybe will have), but I think those are still in pre-production.

Oh my Ra, if there were Sebeki boulder-tossers I would be all OVER this!
